Join us for a conversation with Akemi Kochiyama, granddaughter of Yuri Kochiyama a civil rights activist who lived in the Japanese community in New York City’s Harlem. Hosted by ASAM Professor, Rob Buscher, in his course “Asian American Activism”. Akemi Kochiyama is a Harlem based scholar-activist, community builder and non-profit consultant. Akemi is co-director of the Yuri Kochiyama Solidarity Project and co-editor of “Passing It On: A Memoir” by Yuri Kochiyama. Akemi’s work is focused on social justice, BIPOC solidarity (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and education.
